Our Story
Hi, I'm Shadana and I am the founder of Miranda Chaney Petite Wear. The idea of the brand started in 2014 as an idea to escape the realties of working a 9-5 job that I didn't love. I always had a love for fashion, but never dreamed of pursuing it as an actual career. Being that I was a working woman, I had a vision to sell beautiful and fashion forward clothing to the everyday working woman, originally I was not interested in designing the clothes but instead getting into the resell market. In 2015 I had the privilege of studying abroad in Spain for 3 months while being in grad school at the time. In Spain I explored many design houses and admired the street fashion I seen on a daily basis. That inspiration led me back to the US to start my own clothing company. It had dawned on me that their weren't many known black design houses in the US and I wanted to change the narrative and create my own clothing line.
I started out designing cocktail dresses for the everyday socialite. That line never got off the ground because it was a complete train wreck. I realized I had no clue about the fashion design industry other than knowing how to mix and match pieces for a fabulous wardrobe. I was also lacking in business skills. I knew I needed to take a few steps back and become an expert in fashion design and level up my business skills, and that's what I did for 3 and half years. In between that time, I had the privilege of using my good fashion eye to work as a stylist. While working with clients, I realized the lack of clothing options for Petite women that led to the many frustrations and sometimes a dwindle in confidence amongst my clients. It was during that time that I had an aha moment and discovered my calling. It was to fill the gap in the market and provide clothing for shorter women. Being a Petite woman myself, I thought, hmmm, this will be perfect me. Hence then Miranda Chaney Petite Wear was born.
